Home-Based Business in Serian: Learning New Opportunities
On 25 July 2026, PSJKM joined KEMAS Serian for a community-focused entrepreneurship programme. The programme introduced home-based business in Serian through modern embroidery and creative skills.
The session brought together 20 participants from the KEMAS community. Moreover, both KEMAS staff and learners participated in the programme and shared their learning experiences.
The programme focused on practical entrepreneurship opportunities that participants could explore from home. Therefore, the session connected creative skills with potential income-generating activities.
PSJKM also thanks Puan Sawai AK Akin, Pegawai KEMAS Daerah Serian, for supporting and facilitating this collaboration.
Exploring Home-Based Business Through Modern Embroidery
The seminar introduced participants to the concept of home-based business in Serian. Furthermore, participants learned about modern embroidery and the equipment available today.
Modern equipment can help individuals improve their creative work and develop products more efficiently. Therefore, the session encouraged participants to consider how technology can complement traditional skills.
The programme also showed that entrepreneurship can start with practical skills. With the right knowledge and support, participants can gradually develop products for their communities and customers.
As a result, the session created an opportunity for KEMAS staff and learners to think about creative skills from a business perspective.
Learning Through Eco Pounding
The programme also included an eco pounding bag workshop. Through this hands-on activity, participants explored sustainable product-making techniques.
The workshop encouraged participants to experiment with creative designs while learning about responsible material use. Meanwhile, participants experienced how practical workshops can complement entrepreneurship learning.
Therefore, the programme connected three important areas: skills development, sustainability and entrepreneurship.
This combination can help communities explore new opportunities while encouraging more responsible approaches to product creation.
Strengthening Sarawak’s Local Skills
This programme also highlights PSJKM’s continuing efforts to support community learning in Sarawak. Importantly, these programmes work closely with local organisations and community institutions.
Through home-based business in Serian, participants can explore opportunities without leaving their communities. Furthermore, local partnerships can help create stronger pathways for skills development and future entrepreneurship.
PSJKM believes that local empowerment works best when communities participate actively. Therefore, we welcome more organisations in Sarawak to develop programmes together with our local team.
