Second Chances for Female Inmates Through Skills Training

Everyone deserves an opportunity to build a better future. Therefore, PSJKM launched the RESTART initiative in collaboration with Jabatan Penjara Malaysia to create second chances for female inmates through practical skills training and income-generating opportunities.

Recently, PSJKM conducted a training programme for 30 female inmates at Jabatan Penjara Wanita Kajang with the support of Jabatan Penjara Malaysia Headquarters. Through the programme, participants learned sewing and handicraft skills that can help them earn an income while serving their sentence. More importantly, these skills can continue supporting them after their release.

At the same time, the initiative encourages participants to build confidence and prepare for a successful return to society. As a result, second chances for female inmates become more achievable through practical learning and meaningful opportunities.

Building Skills That Create Opportunities

The RESTART initiative focuses on equipping participants with practical skills that remain valuable beyond the training period. In addition, participants learn production techniques, quality standards, and product-making processes that support future employment and self-employment opportunities.

Rather than focusing on past circumstances, PSJKM focuses on future possibilities. Therefore, every session encourages participants to discover their strengths and develop skills that support long-term independence. Meanwhile, trainers provide guidance and hands-on support throughout the learning journey.

Consequently, participants gain valuable experience while producing quality handcrafted items. More importantly, these experiences help transform second chances for female inmates into real opportunities for growth and financial stability.

Creating Positive Impact Beyond the Prison Walls

The RESTART initiative delivers impact that extends beyond skills development. Firstly, participants gain opportunities to earn income while preparing for release. Secondly, families benefit from improved financial opportunities and future earning potential. Furthermore, communities benefit when individuals return with practical skills and a renewed sense of purpose.

In addition, the programme demonstrates how collaboration between PSJKM and Jabatan Penjara Malaysia can create meaningful social impact. Therefore, both organisations continue exploring ways to strengthen pathways that support rehabilitation, personal growth, and successful reintegration into society.

Supporting Second Chances Through Collaboration

At PSJKM, we believe that skills create opportunities, while opportunities create hope. Therefore, we remain committed to creating second chances for female inmates through education, skills development, and empowerment initiatives.

Together, we can help individuals rebuild confidence, strengthen livelihoods, and create brighter futures. Ultimately, every effort contributes towards building stronger communities and creating lasting social impact.
