Transforming Plastic Waste into Creativity
On February 13, 2025, a group of children from a daycare center visited PSJKM’s Creative Lab to take part in our Plastic Upcycling Workshop. This engaging session introduced them to the importance of reusing plastic bags at home through creative, hands-on learning. By exploring upcycling, the children discovered how everyday waste can be repurposed into valuable materials.
Inspiring Sustainability in Young Learners
For this session, 21 children aged 7 to 12 years old joined us. The workshop started with an informative talk about pollution and its impact. A lively Q&A session followed, where the kids asked questions about waste and household textile excess. This discussion encouraged them to think critically about consumption and how small changes can make a difference.
A Tour of the Creative Lab
After the discussion, the children explored our Creative Lab, where they saw examples of how discarded plastic bags and fabrics could be transformed into new materials. This hands-on experience allowed them to understand the power of upcycling while sparking their creativity and curiosity about sustainability.
Turning Plastic Bags into Functional Textiles
Following the tour, our skilled instructor demonstrated the step-by-step process of turning plastic bags into usable materials. Under the guidance of PSJKM’s dedicated team, the children worked in teams with DIY kits, applying what they had learned in an interactive and exciting way.
Enhancing Creativity and Practical Skills
One of the highlights of the workshop was the chance for each child to use a sewing machine. For many, this was their first experience with sewing, and they were thrilled to create something with their own hands. The workshop nurtured their creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork, leaving them with a sense of accomplishment and pride.
Why Children Should Join Sustainability Workshops
Workshops like these empower children by helping them develop critical thinking, creativity, and environmental responsibility. Learning about upcycling at an early age encourages them to adopt eco-friendly habits and understand the value of sustainability. Plus, hands-on activities like sewing boost fine motor skills and teamwork, making learning both fun and impactful!
