Home-Based Business in Kabong: Building Local Opportunities

On 17 August 2026, PSJKM supported a seminar on home-based business in Kabong, Sarawak. The programme brought together 21 women from Kampung Hilir Sungai Pala, Kabong.

The programme took place at the Kabong District Office meeting room. Moreover, PSJKM worked closely with the local community leadership to deliver the activities.

The programme focused on modern embroidery and practical opportunities for home-based entrepreneurship. Therefore, participants gained insights into how creative skills can support income generation from home.

The programme also involved collaboration with the community leadership of Kampung Hilir Sungai Pala. Special thanks go to Ketua Kaum, Puan Haini binti Mohd Salem, for supporting the programme.

From Modern Embroidery to Home-Based Business

The seminar introduced participants to the concept of home-based business in Kabong. Furthermore, the session introduced modern embroidery equipment and techniques.

Participants explored how technology can improve traditional creative skills. As a result, they gained a better understanding of modern embroidery and its potential business applications.

The session also encouraged participants to think beyond learning a craft. Instead, they explored how skills can become practical products and future income opportunities.

This approach supports PSJKM’s wider mission to develop practical skills within communities. More importantly, it creates opportunities for individuals to build confidence and explore entrepreneurship locally.

Learning Through Eco Pounding

Alongside the business sharing session, participants joined an eco pounding bag workshop. Through this hands-on activity, they explored another creative approach to sustainable product making.

The workshop encouraged participants to experiment with natural elements and creative techniques. Meanwhile, participants experienced how simple materials can become useful and attractive products.

Therefore, the activity connected entrepreneurship, creativity and sustainability in one practical learning experience.

Empowering Sarawak’s Local Community

This programme also reflects the growing role of PSJKM’s local efforts in Sarawak. The team works with community leaders to understand local needs and create suitable learning opportunities.

Consequently, home-based business in Kabong becomes more than a seminar topic. It becomes a pathway for women to develop skills, explore entrepreneurship and create opportunities within their own communities.

PSJKM welcomes organisations, community leaders and local partners who want to develop similar programmes in Sarawak. Together, we can support more locally led initiatives and empower communities through practical skills.
