The Beginning of a Sustainable Collaboration
In January 2025, PSJKM and Dorsett Grand Subang launched an inspiring upcycling journey. The project began when the Marketing Manager of Dorsett Grand Subang visited PSJKM, followed by active involvement from the hotel’s Management, Pn. Tania and Mr. Daniel. Since then, both sides explored multiple ways to create synergy for a project that connects sustainability with social empowerment. Every meeting opened new opportunities and strengthened the shared commitment to impact.
Sampling Old Materials with Purpose
PSJKM’s R&D team quickly started the sampling phase. The team worked with discarded materials such as old curtains, worn uniforms, and obsolete file covers. Each material carried potential to be transformed into something valuable. Through continuous testing, the artisans refined their craft to meet the sustainability standards set by Dorsett. The effort proved that upcycling is not just recycling old fabrics but elevating them into products of real worth.
Empowerment Beyond Sustainability
From the beginning, this collaboration carried a dual mission: protect the environment and empower people. The artisans involved include B40 families, single parents, and members of the Orang Asli community. By giving them the platform to showcase their skills, Dorsett highlighted the human story behind every creation. This effort ensured that each upcycled product carried dignity and empowerment, not just environmental value. It showed how a healthy circular economy includes both people and the planet.
A Continuous Path of Improvement
Many prototypes emerged during this phase, but the teams refused to settle for average results. Together, PSJKM and Dorsett kept improving the designs to ensure professional quality. The goal was not just to stop wastage but to prove that sustainable products can reach premium standards. This dedication turned an idea into a journey of innovation.
