BDO x PSJKM Empowers Orang Asli: Building Empathy, Not Charity
The BDO x PSJKM collaboration at Kg. Beswok, Sg. Siput (Perak) proved that true community work is built on empathy, not sympathy. Forty BDO participants stepped into the lives of the Orang Asli (Temiar) villagers—not as outsiders offering help, but as learners walking side by side.
They visited Orang Asli homes, shared meals, and listened to stories that reflected resilience and gratitude. These humble moments opened hearts and minds, showing that empowerment begins when people connect as equals, with sincerity and respect.
Empowering the Orang Asli Through Shared Knowledge
The Orang Asli community gained more than materials or aid—they gained visibility, confidence, and partnership. Through hut building, the villagers worked alongside participants to improve their community hall and create a new shared space.
In return, the Orang Asli shared their cultural knowledge—teaching weaving, natural dyeing, and eco-printing techniques that use forest plants. These exchanges turned the forest into a classroom, where tradition met creativity. The program reminded everyone that empowerment thrives when wisdom flows both ways.
Discovering Gratitude and Growth Among Participants
The BDO x PSJKM Empower Project also deeply transformed the participants. Many entered the program seeing CSR as a company activity, but they left understanding it as a commitment to sustainability and human connection.
Beyond the community work, they found joy in the eco-print workshop and a jungle bathing session at the sacred waterfall—a moment of renewal and reflection. The experience fostered stronger teamwork, patience, and gratitude. It reminded them that doing good can also be deeply fulfilling and joyful.
A Continuing Journey of Empowerment
This collaboration between BDO Malaysia and PSJKM, verified by JAKOA (Perak & Kedah), created impact that will last long after the event. It brought confidence to the Orang Asli community and a renewed sense of purpose to the participants.
