Eco-Print and Natural Dye on RTM Sabah
PSJKM Sabah Branch proudly showcased eco-print and natural dye in RTM’s popular programme, “Bikin Sampai Jadi”, on 11 August 2025. The session featured Puan Atijah Jamili, Deputy Chairperson of PSJKM Sabah, and Puan Majitah Kubud, a passionate trainer. Together, they demonstrated how natural resources can be transformed into unique, sustainable fabric designs.
This opportunity allowed PSJKM Sabah to introduce eco-print and natural dye to a wider audience, showing how creativity and sustainability can work hand in hand. By using leaves, flowers, and plant waste, participants can create lasting imprints and natural colours on fabric without harmful chemicals.
The Art of Eco-Print and Natural Dye
Eco-print and natural dye combine tradition with innovation. The process begins with preparing fabric, followed by arranging plants and applying natural dye sources such as onion skin, durian shell, or avocado. Once steamed, the final outcome reveals vibrant and unexpected patterns that celebrate the beauty of nature.
Through this platform, PSJKM Sabah aimed to educate the community on how eco-print and natural dye not only produce environmentally friendly fabrics but also reduce waste. This method promotes sustainable living while preserving local plant knowledge and cultural practices.
Join the Creative Sustainability Movement
The RTM feature marked an important step in raising awareness of eco-friendly craftsmanship in Malaysia. PSJKM Sabah continues to explore and share the possibilities of natural dye and eco-print across the country.
