Sew & Save Upcycling Program: Turning Waste into Purpose
The Sew & Save Upcycling Program marked a meaningful collaboration between PSJKM and Majlis Perbandaran Selayang (MPS). On this impactful day, 100 selected residents from the Selayang community came together to explore upcycling and sustainability. PSJKM facilitated the session, guiding participants to transform discarded materials into functional, eco-friendly items.
This Sew & Save Upcycling Program not only fostered environmental responsibility but also empowered the community with new skills. Through this initiative, participants realized that small actions can lead to a more sustainable lifestyle.
Opening Ceremony Led by YDP Shahman Jalaludin
The session was officially launched by YDP Shahman Jalaludin, Yang Dipertua of MPS. His presence underscored the council’s strong commitment to sustainability and community empowerment. YDP Shahman encouraged participants to take ownership of green practices and implement them in daily life.
This leadership support from MPS made the event even more impactful, enabling PSJKM to further its mission in the Selayang area.
Creative Upcycling Projects Promote Green Living
Participants engaged in two creative and educational activities:
-
Plastic Bag Pouches – Participants repurposed plastic bags into reusable pouches, useful for storage or travel.
-
T-Shirt Floor Mats – They upcycled worn t-shirts into beautiful, braided mats, giving fabric waste a second life.
These projects highlighted how waste can be turned into practical items, reinforcing that sustainability is within everyone’s reach.
Thank You to Our Partners and Volunteers
We extend our deepest thanks to Majlis Perbandaran Selayang (MPS) for their support, and to our passionate volunteer Christine, who helped guide participants throughout the session. Her efforts played a key role in the program’s success.
